Please join us as we begin preparations for the tenth anniversary of Intention!

What began as a gathering for unity amidst the uncertainty of an impending Y2K global systems collapse has unfolded into a decade of yearly winter retreats to renew ourselves and our community spirit as we enter each new year. Intention is an opportunity to practice the universal spiritual art of community, deepen our ability to cooperate, clear our emotional debts, and harness the gifts we each bring for whatever challenges or opportunities we will encounter in the still-uncertain times ahead.

Intention is a five-day, four-night event where participants of all ages give and receive workshops, perform, dance, play together, share meals and have fun. We huddle together in the darkness of deep winter spinning stories into a warm glow of laughter. Intention is a time and space for being ourselves, healing, dynamic community-building, community ritual, and an awesome New Year's party to lovingly let go of the year past and embrace a new turn around the sun.

Intention is a hub for the self-identified members of the tribal dance/rave/freak community from BC and beyond. A plethora of creative careers – artists, activists, healers, facilitators, djs, performers – have been launched and supported by participation in the Intention gatherings. For many, it has simply been a place to nestle amongst peers in a non-competitive and nurturing setting.
This retreat makes room for personal autonomy as well as collaboration. Intention is participant-driven - it allows maximum room for sharing our personal gifts or learning new skills. It is an opportunity to work together with old friends and new faces to create a safe container for a rich exploration of music, art, self-expression and creativity.

Everyone is encouraged to find their own way to connect into the organizing flow and become involved in the production. The program of what happens when, who does what, and how it all comes together for everyone to enjoy is brainstormed, discussed, planned and decided at public meetings in the weeks leading up to Intention at New Years. In this sense Intention actually begins the moment you commit to attending which in some cases could be as early as October! Experienced organizers work with newcomers so people can try something new in a supportive environment.

This year's Intention will be held again at a secluded, private camp for youth with special needs near Maple Ridge. Intention begins on the afternoon of Wednesday December 31st and ends on the morning of Sunday January 4th. The ticket price will be set and registration will open in early November. This event will definitely reach full capacity - priority for registration will be given to those who attend the public meetings; as always some spaces for guests from out of town will be held back and made available online.
